My name is Cara. I am a 25 year old emerging artist! I LOVE and MAKE dance, film, theater, music and poetry. I am a full time artist, and am blessed to have found the avenues necessary to make my art my life! Even better, I have found a way to do my artwork to the fullest no where near a large city, despite the doubts of my friends and colleagues when I decided to leave NYC after only a year, four years ago. This blog is to chronicle the beginnings of what is hopefully a long, lasting artistic career full of possibility, growth and manifestation. Enjoy!
Today, I am supposed to be gearing up for the premiere of my new work for theater, LOST AND FOUND, a short one act play, which is a mixture of storytelling, live music and dance. The piece takes place in a junkyard: "These things are not just junk...they're treasure! Every object in the junkyard can be brought to life, simply through the telling of its story..." An old, ripped jacket, a forgotten letter...these and other objects are the inspiration for the stories told in the piece. I have been working hard on this piece, with my percussionist, Scott, for the past three months. The piece has been through many transformations...adding, subtracting, questioning, answering, laughing, lamenting and perfecting. Just a week before our scheduled premiere, we finally felt like we had it all together! And those who have previewed the piece this past week have agreed. We have had wonderful feed back, and delight in how we have been able to integrate our individual specialties into one cohesive, enjoyable, whimsical experience.
Of course, you must remember that I used the word supposed when referring to the preparation for tonight's premiere. Well, under no fault of our own, the performance has been canceled by the powers that be at our venue. We are having a snow day. So I have decided to put aside my disappointment for the time being, and enjoy the day off. My fiancee and I have already made a wonderful breakfast for each other, and we have made plans to take a turn about the neighborhood in the fresh snow! Perhaps there are donuts in our not-so-distant future! Here's to hoping our performance is not canceled again tomorrow!
